On the eve of Bohag Bihu, the Jugal, Joganiya Custom Hiring Centre of Bokakhat Co District of Assam, with support from the Social Responsibility Department of Numaligarh Refinery, has initiated interstate marketing of pumpkins produced by local farmers.

Local farmers Bitu Bora and Rakesh Munda, each of them dispatched 25 tons of pumpkin to Kolkata, West Bengal, on April 12 in a 14‑wheeler truck. With this shipment, the Jugal Joganiya Custom Hiring Centre formally launched this year’s agricultural marketing journey. During the loading and dispatch of the pumpkins, Panbari Area Research Centre’s Deputy Agriculture Officer Alakananda Kakoti and Menon Baruah were present.

It is noteworthy that Numaligarh Refinery has long been supporting more than twenty Custom Hiring Centres by providing seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and modern agricultural equipment to boost farming. In this effort, the Assam Government’s Agriculture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khumtai, have also extended cooperation, benefiting farmers.

From the 25 tons of pumpkin sent to Kolkata, farmers are expected to earn around ₹3 lakh. Compared to last year, farmers have received higher prices at the very beginning of the season, which has given local pumpkin growers significant encouragement.
